Juan Ponce de León was a Spanish explorer and conquistador, notable for leading the first official European expeditions to Puerto Rico in 1508 and Florida in 1513. Born in 1474, he arrived in the Americas as part of Christopher Columbus's second expedition in 1493. His explorations contributed significantly to the early European mapping and understanding of the Caribbean and North American coastlines.
